BRAZIL: ANATEL Working With Marketplaces to Ban Unapproved Equipment From The Market

Back

ANATEL is informing they are working with the online marketplaces to fight against the illegal activities preventing the sale of unapproved or irregular telecom products. This action seeks to protect the spectrum and the telecommunication services. The Authority wants to avoid low-quality products in the market which could also be harmful to health and safety.

Some of these companies have already started adjusting their websites and platforms in order to accept only the register of products already approved by the Authority. In this way, the sellers or distributors would be subject to fill in the assigned code from Anatel. Selling unapproved products will have severe fines and penalties (Law No. 9,472/1997).

The Group is committed to implementing, as of December 6, a second stage of the tool’s evolution, with the automatic comparison of approval codes in the Agency’s database, among other functionalities.
