BRAZIL: Brazil to Promote 700 MHz Auction in New York and London

Back

Brazil will promote the auction of the 700 MHz band, expected to occur in August, between the 23rd  and 26th of  June in New York and London. Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo will lead the delegation that includes members of the Ministry of Communications and the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). The objective is to present the Brazilian telecommunications market and promote the auction, in order to attract companies that do not operate in Brazil. This frequency range, which is currently occupied by free-to-air TV channels, will be released with the switchover of channels to digital technology. The spectrum will be used  to expand the 4G internet in Brazil, which has been operating since 2013 on the frequency band 2.5 GHz. The 700 MHz frequency enables coverage of large areas using fewer antennas, which allows the expansion of telecommunications services to rural areas at a lower cost.
