The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) adopted in 2014 a new set of rules for the certification of radio equipment in Europe. One of these rules is the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU, which replaces the existing R&TTE Directive. The deadline for EU Member States to adopt the new directive in their legislation was June 13, 2016 and the deadline for manufactures to comply with the new directive will be June 13, 2017. Furthermore, the ETSI has informed all interested parties that the harmonized standard EN 301 893 used for 5GHz Wireless Access Systems is still under revision in order to include new technologies and a new test method. This standard was supposed to be published by June 2017, but ETSI was unable to have it ready by that date. Notified bodies will have to manage the market demand of certification issuing Type Examination Certificates. ENTIRETY will keep you informed about the evolution of this process.
