On February 26th, 2019, the Wireless Planning Coordination (WPC) wing of the Department of Telecommunications of India issued a modification in the policy of Type Approval process for certain categories of wireless equipment that uses the license exempts bands. Those devices include but not limited to smartphones, mobile handsets, notepads, laptops, smart watches, short-range devices (including accessories, microphones, speakers, headphones, earphones, printers, scanners, cameras) Is worth to mention that devices classified as “Restricted” in the EXIM Policy the standard WPC process will continue as usual; those devices includes but not limited to Drones, Point to Point Radios, Communication jamming devices among others.
Now the process requires that the Importer/Indian Representative make a self-declaration process instead of the previous process application. The steps of such a process are the following:
- Test report from an accredited lab for the exact model to be obtained from the manufacturer.
- Importer/Indian Representative to check that the report is genuine and without alteration
- WPC Fees INR 10000/= (USD $160) to be paid online
- Test Report and WPC Fees’ receipt and consignment details (if the available or approximate date of export to India) to be emailed to eta-selfdecl.wpc-dot@gov.in
- Self-declaration in the specified format to be filled with technical data (to be extracted from the report) and other information, and signed by Importer / Indian Representative
- Importer to present the signed self-declaration to customs at the time of customs clearance.
