Egypt: NTRA updates their SRD Guideline to include allowed bands for WiFi 6E

Back

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt has announced significant advancements in spectrum management, including granting 5G licenses to mobile operators and allocating additional bandwidth for 6GHz RLAN for the first time in Egypt. 6GHz RLAN devices must operate in the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band, with a maximum EIRP of 250mW, using digital modulation techniques such as the ones set by IEEE 802.11ax standards. Usage is restricted to indoor environments only for the time being.

The regulatory update also introduced a new mechanism for quality violation fines, incentivizing telecom operators to enhance their infrastructure investments. Doubling fine values aims to improve network coverage and service quality nationwide, particularly for 5G and other telecom infrastructure. Compliance with these measures is critical for market access and operational continuity.

These changes reinforce Egypt’s commitment to fostering innovation in telecommunications while setting clear compliance benchmarks. Stakeholders in the telecom, infrastructure, and consumer electronics sectors should ensure that their products meet the updated technical and operational requirements to maintain market access.
