UAE: Equipment Type Approval Policy

The TRA is the entity concerned with regulating the telecom sector, including telecommunications equipment. Thus, and in accordance with the Law, it is an offense for anyone to sell or offer any non-TRA-approved telecommunications apparatus.

According to the (Telecommunications Equipment Type Approval Policy), a conformity mark shall be placed on approved equipment:

The Manufacturer, Importer, and Distributor of Telecommunications Equipment shall undertake to include the Type Approval conformity mark when the Equipment is offered to consumers via any channel in order to demonstrate that the Equipment has been Type Approved as per TRA’s procedures.
Conformity Mark requirements shall be identified in the Type Approval Regulation available on – Regulations and Ruling page – TRA website: Annex C

It should be noted that the approved Regulation determines the format of the Conformity Mark and where to place it as follows:

The Registered Telecommunications Equipment Manufacturer or Importer is obligated to place a Type Approval Regime Conformity Mark prior to the offering, selling, or making the equipment available in the UAE market.

This Mark shall be placed on the product box in a clear, readable, and non-removable format.
It shall also be placed under display platforms in retail stores (or any form of the display) in a way that is clearly visible and legible to users, for example:

a. Listings on websites
b. Display platforms in retail stores
