On August 1st, 2023, the United Kingdom’s Department for Business and Trade (DBT) declared an indefinite extension for businesses to use the CE marking. This extension applies to 18 regulations that are under the ownership of the DBT.
- toys
- pyrotechnics
- recreational craft and personal watercraft
- simple pressure vessels
- electromagnetic compatibility
- non-automatic weighing instruments
- measuring instruments
- measuring container bottles
- lifts
- equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
- radio equipment
- pressure equipment
- personal protective equipment (PPE)
- gas appliances
- machinery
- equipment for use outdoors

- low voltage electrical equipment
The affected categories do not include medical devices, construction products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, rail products, marine equipment, or ecodesign. The extension will only apply to the regulations previously mentioned by the DBT.
This decision is aimed to ease business burdens and help grow the economy by cutting barriers and bureaucracy in the UK.
The extension of the CE mark recognition will provide the industry and manufacturers with the flexibility and choice to use either the UKCA or CE approach to sell products in Great Britain for the regulation above.
