Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh has signed and promulgated Document No. 141/KH-BCĐTKNQ18, dated December 6, 2024, heralding significant changes to the organizational structure of Vietnam’s government. Among these reforms, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) stands at the forefront of a pivotal transformation.
As part of a comprehensive plan to streamline the government apparatus, the MIC is set to merge with the Ministry of Science and Technology. This consolidation aims to establish a more robust and integrated ministry dedicated to advancing Vietnam’s digital transformation. The proposed names for this new entity—such as the Ministry of Science, Technology and Digital Transformation or the Ministry of Science, Technology, Digital Transformation and Communications—underscore its strategic focus.
Although the precise timeline for the merger has yet to be finalized, the government intends to complete its preparatory plans by the end of 2024, with all reports and submissions regarding the reorganization due no later than December 31, 2024. The merger is anticipated to take effect during the first quarter of 2025.
